Have a REAL Happy Easter - Decorate Your World - Say NO to Eggs!

I know what we'd all like to think... Easter should be a time of purity and renewal... A time to celebrate life!

Yet billions of peeps
never know for a moment what nature intended for them - - - the loving warmth of a mother hen...

To be nurtured is a biological imperative.  It is a gift of birth.
But we do care for our own... While ignoring the unnecessary cost to others.

All the while, painting pretty pictures of what we wish our world to be.

And we think ourselves as  generous and compassionate... And certainly deserving of all that is good.

So on this day of blessings; And harmony with all that is devine and holy - Might we embrace some truth?

Eggs are not what they're cracked up to be...
So go vegan - And have a REAL Happy Easter.

Just out of curiosity -- if a person gets their eggs from a friend whose chickens lead VERY good, free-range lives (not being killed for meat, either), do you have a problem with egg dying at Easter? (We did this.)

I don't call myself "the almost vegan" for nothing.

Hi Elaine! By far - I am NOT the vegan "police" at all! I don't think being "pure" is the goal - I think it's the effort and intent to harm or not that is the most important issue about my veganism...

That said, the only thing I personally have against eggs from "pet" chickens is where the hens came from... If they were rescues this is wonderful! Or even if they were hatched the natural way... But if they were bought like a "commodity" this presents an ethical problem for me...

I'm sure you know about what goes on in hatcheries... Sexing and destroying the "unproductive" male chicks is just so vicious. Hardly anyone can accept this as justifiable or "humane"... I just don't like the idea of selling or buying anybody - As an (almost) vegan too, I'm sure you agree.

As far as I'm concerned, if your friend has given homes to happy chickens and cares for them with the idea of letting them live their complete lives - I couldn't see any problem with this at all. In fact, I'd say the hens in her flock "hit the lottery"... Their fate in other circumstances could be much, much worse!

BTW - I have a small flock of rescued hens - Some from a "factory" and some from chick hatching projects in schools... I adore them - They're beautiful, dignified, zany, funny, absolute "terrors" and sweet angels - All depending on what mood you catch them in. I'd like to think they "hit the lottery" too! I know I did - when they came into my life!

So (almost) vegan Elaine... As far as I'm concerned you color those gorgeous "freedom" eggs - I see no harm in a life that's allowed to be! ;)

Elaine, there is nothing wrong with eating eggs, milk, or meat, so why worry about it? It doesn't matter if the birds weren't born under ideal conditions, they layed an egg so eat it and and enjoy the health benefits to you.

Hello Anonymous - We "worry" about fairness - especially when we're in a position to cause others harm or not. Many people like to live in balance with these beliefs: To not cause pain or suffering to the innocent if it can be avoided. This empathy is one of our virtues... So why be cruel if we don't have to be? The world is so much better with a bit more kindness in it - Don't you agree?
