Eating Humane Meat? You Know it's a Myth!

As I've said before I don't support every single thing that PETA does --- Often I want to loudly denounce any association with them.  And then something useful comes along - Presented in a way I'm happy to endorse and share. In this instance Ingrid Newkirk provides an opportunity to do so:

Oh, tell me, dear, don't pigs love their cages,
and farmers pay them tip-top wages?
Do they dine on pine cones, nuts, and clover,
and go gladly when it's over?
And, tell me, dear, what can I eat,
if I'd refuse the meat?
If I shun liver, tongue, and ground-up body,
will I end up feeling shoddy?
What about veal and legs of lamb?
Monkeys' brains and fried-up spam?
Will beans and nuts be quite as yummy?
Will greens and grains fill up my tummy?
Well, yes, they're good, the answer came.
And eating them involves no shame!
Humane meat's like ... the Easter Bunny.
The problem is, this myth's not funny.
Considering a human is just another animal,
if you eat your fellows, you're actually a cannibal.

Bea, I agree with your take on PETA - they go in and out of favour with me too. But this is a great article. Thanks for sharing it.

In part, PETA's mission statement says: "PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry."

Sometimes they do good...sometimes they screw up. I may not agree with everything they do...and don't but that doesn't mean I don't agree with anything they do.

Hi David - Nice to know you don't throw about babies with bathwater either! The poem is especially a keeper - Perhaps someday someone musically inclined can set it to music so it can be embedded in little heads instead of "Old MacDonald's? It sure would be a lot more truthful. :/

Thanks for dropping by! xox

Hi veganelder - I never looked at their mission statement before. I suppose their view on what "attention" is varies greatly between us all.

In my mind I guess I've separated Ms. Newkirk from the bulk of what peta does. I'd have to trace every single offensive story to see what the circumstances were that made them happen. And still --- In the end --- I'm sure the organization's best interest is the nonhumans... They just have lapses in good judgment on how to make that happen. I sure am a member of that club too! :/

Thanks for your visit - You hit in on the noggin "I may not agree with everything they do...and don't but that doesn't mean I don't agree with anything they do." Me too! :)
