To Market~To Market~To Buy a Starved Pig...

For those who may have missed this story- said to be Canada's Largest Case of Farm Animal Cruelty - involving  the abandonment of almost 3,000 individual hogs.  They were found in a "farm" warehouse after weeks of being left without water, without proper air circulation and without food.  500 died of starvation.

Many will say that this "extreme" case of neglect does not reflect the standard practices used to get pigs to market... Like these:

If you agree with killing and eating these creatures I can't apologize if the videos offend you.
If you still think pigs should be made to live and die to become your "food" you are obligated to know what this choice entails!
Thankfully there are much better options.

No matter the country or society, wherever humans possess some degree of power over other animals, atrocities occur. What a horrific statement about the human animal. Sad, sad, sad.

I agree... It just comes with the territory of "using" animals. Sad and sickening.

I hadn't heard about this. And I live in Canada! Thanks so much for posting. Also, I really admire your persistent effort in reaching those who aren't vegan yet, especially in the face of rude comments. You rock! :)

Well hi there! So kind of you to say such nice things... And just when I needed to hear them most! ;)

I see you do a good job too at your own site - having "persistence" in trying to reach yet-to-be-vegans! I'm happy to add you to my links and intend to drop by now and then. Those look like some great recipes - My kind of "easy" cooking! :)

Thanks for all you do - It'll happen... It's just a matter of time. :)

Thank you so much Bea! And I agree, it WILL happen. Maybe not as fast as we'd like, but there's too many shifts in consciousness just around food (e.g. slow food, local food, food recalls), that I think it's more a matter of people finally catching up and connecting all the dots.

You're one of my vegan heroes by the way, as over time I've noticed how when commenting on other blogs (I've only recently started commenting instead of just reading), you manage to take what resonates for you even if you don't always agree with an organization or its ideology. It can be hard to do given how political the AR movement sometimes is, but you do it really well. :)

I get Google news alerts regarding animal ag, recalls, environmental and other "farmed" animal "meat" issues. I'm amazed at what troubling times they are in. People are learning the issues and concern is rising... On all fronts.

Thanks for your acknowledgment of my refusal to be "grouped" into a particular part of the "movement". This was not how I started out though... It took some time to sift through what I believed or disagreed with... I honestly can't say I align with any particular "organization" or philosophy. I think in the end all that won't matter much anyway. How we get to the goal of enlightenment towards animals, the planet and each other will be made of a twisting, irregular and blending of many ideologies and events.

I'm no genius... Haven't got the instant answer to what gets us there any quicker. All I really know is that we each have to do as much as we can, in what way is right for ourselves... Or none of it will work for any of us. The animals depend on us telling *our* truth - We owe it to them and ourselves to give it our best shot.

Thanks for all you do too! ;)
