Dairy Father - Invites Sacrificial Cow to the Table

This provincial effigy, fashioned from 1,000 pounds of 100% butterfat, is meant to be a tribute to the dairy industry. I know my friend and ally Ben at Suicide Foods could do a much better job assessing the irony in this image... But honestly, I just can't help my myself...
Here we have the classic portrayal of female servitude... Slave serving slave so to speak, as we see the human mother extending the plate in the direction of the nonhuman mother... Almost as an offering of solidarity; Or at least in recognition of mutual circumstance. They know they've done their jobs well - breeding sons... Some for veal - Some to be raised as veal eaters. But when we see into the bovines eyes, can we not detect a ruefulness? Perhaps she wonders where her babies are? Three births and still, a childless life. Could she be longing for her herd mates - missing the gossip at the milking polar? Or maybe it's the florescent lights that bother her? Cow people enjoy the sun and sky that nature provides... She will no doubt see them on her next ride in the transport truck.
At that destination, she will continue her dutiful contributions in the "food chain"... McDonald's will encourage other human families to dine on her fluids and flesh - Her rank is secured on the dollar menu; And consuming her "souless" body will be presented as a practice as "wholesome" as this paradigm... Returning to the table of plenty... and of "thrift" - We see Father... pouring the wealth of white abundance! Things are looking good for him with the recent government bailouts! Whew! That was a close one! The reality of the market place almost had consequence! Oh Father Provider! Thank you for buttering the palms of the other men in power! Father may we never ask how much money/energy it costs to keep this chilled spectacle "alive". May we never wonder about the e-coli in the burger... Or the manure in the rivers... May we never question, or be "lactose" intolerant... Father, maker of all things with cholesterol and saturated fat - may we never doubt your archaic methods of domination and force... Long live the patriarchy! Or at least as long as it takes for this obscene, excessive, vulgar, iconic charade to melt into a greasy pool of rancid goo! There... I had my say - You know the rest... Go Vegan.

DAIRY FREE - CRUELTY FREE COMPASSIONATE DREAM

There are those who will say that animal advocates become vegan because of feelings of guilt due to the harm caused to animals. But this is not so. Guilt is something one feels when they continue on a course that they know is responsible for suffering or pain to another... Once one knows that their continued actions is the cause of this abuse; and they choose to ignore this suffering - then they can (and should) feel "guilt".
On the other hand, vegans are not motivated by "guilt" but rather by compassion. It is compassion that makes them choose different options.... Fortunately with no extreme self-denial along the way:

Dairy Cow Teat Dip - Great for Pools and Spas!

Stonyfield Farm "Organic" is recalling their 32 ounce plain yogurt product because it may contain food grade sanitizers. And even though I don't eat things made from cow's milk, I got curious about what a "food grade sanitizer" is and what it is used for. Here's what I found: Food grade sanitizers are used by the dairy industry as teat dips. These are germicidal solutions which helps reduce the rate of mammary infections caused by staph and strep pathogens. Because bacteria from cow feces enters the teat canals, it's a breeding ground for these pathogens which cause mastitis. Mastits or mammary infections, cause high levels of somatic cells in the milk. Somatic cells by the way, (if you're still eating dairy products), are leukocytes, AKA: "pus". (sorry)... And thanks to a powerful dairy lobby, if you're in the U.S., you might want to know that the amount of cells the USDA permits in milk is almost twice as much as the European Union will allow. In an effort to minimize somatic cells, dairy cow's udders are treated with this food grade sanitizer solution either as a pre-milking dip, a post-milking dip or both. This teat dip treatment is usually sprayed on before the machine milk cups are placed on the animal. Of course residue remains on the animal's body and contaminates the milk, as in the case of the Stonyfield Farm Organic Yogurt . So what exactly is in this food grade sanitizing teat dip?
  • iodophor (iodine)
  • detergents (soap)
  • Chlorine (an oxidant disinfectant)
  • Acidified Sodium Chlorite (an antimicrobial)
  • Sodium hypochlorite (laundry bleach)
  • Chlorhexidine (a chemical antiseptic)
  • Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid (a pesticide)
  • Alpha hydroxy acids (a skin exfoilater)
  • Nisin (a preservative)
  • Glycerol Monolaurate (an antimicrobial)
  • Quaternary Ammonium (another microbicidal)
Any combination of these ingredients are found in food grade sanitizers... in teat dips. You know... these chemicals bear a close similarity to the stuff we treat the algae in our pool with. I think rather than using the Green-Out Powder, next time I just might try milk or a "food grade sanitizer" instead. And all kidding aside, dairy cows live awful lives, and an adult drinking secretions from another species is also a horrrible idea. Won't you consider going Vegan instead?
