Instructions For Murder. Don't Try This On Your Home Planet

There's a fund drive to produce a movie called Abattoirs Rising that hopes to make the grand finale of meat-animal-victims less stressful by means of mobile slaughter facilities.

You can also build your own portable bird killing apparatus.
Instructions and charts are included that show how to "put the bird in the kill cone first to keep it confined, then pull the head down making the neck taught and then slice the carotid with a sharp knife."

Seems everyone and anyone (brutal - do not go if you know) has a special method on how to effectively put an end to some one's life!

This woman does the job by gently stroking the bird while she prepares to "respectfully harvest" the hen. Before the stabbing, she softly coos "Hey Lady"... "Hey Beautiful"... She breaks the bird's neck. Then twists and snaps it off. She then gets teary eyed and says "It's never easy. I've killed hundreds of chickens this way".

Or there's this man who tells his two grandsons as he's hanging the bird's legs to a rope tied to a tree, "You have to be nice to them, cause there's no reason to be mean".  (I wonder just how are the kids supposed to know what being "mean" is?)

A quick observation will show that there's a clique' of home-spun blood-lust on youtube. Some try to fancy it up by calling it "humane". While others don't pretend for a moment that it is.

But when these do-it-yourself murderers enlist and encourage the participation of kids, it becomes even more disturbing. Do children have the internal compass or courage to be able to evaluate what they're doing? Isn't it very possible that they are repulsed and unwilling, but fearful to admit it? Could Buddy have been his authentic self, if it was in rebellion to his father's expectations?

What about darlin' Darlene as she's egged on to shoot the pig in the truck? They praised her after the "perfect shot". But what kind of ridicule or punishment would she face if she had declined?

But the world we are privileged predators in, is in such a schizophrenic state. In nearly all circumstances, most of us who follow a pretense of social "rules", would never condone the harm of another being. But make it a "food animal", and let it be some one's kid being instructed to cause the damage, and we haven't the gumption to voice a peep of resistance for either victim. Clearly it's SEP.

Since we all live here though - I'm calling murder when I see it.

And the carnists are getting away with it because there aren't enough justice seekers to put an end to it! Maybe more people ought to take the meat from out of their ears and get their minds off their stomachs, to see the real problems as they are. It's the social justice issue of our time! And the holocaust starts in our own back yards and extends to our home all over our planet!

I'm telling carnists now that your habits sicken me. The way you cavalierly dispose of other lives for gluttony and/or greed offends me beyond words! What kind of mad people are we anyway in the 21st Century? Stop with the blood-letting already - Please!

Factory Farm Burns Thousands of Live Chickens (again)

Stephanie Ernst at Animal Rights - Change.org posted this story on her blog: The Center for Consumer Freedom and its unscrupulous mouthpiece are fond of pretending that they do care about at least basic animal welfare but that they're just "normal" about it, as opposed to those of us who are extreme--that is, those of us who really care about eliminating unnecessary suffering rather than just occasionally pretending to care for sake of PR. Well, here's one of those great examples of how much they care:

What's he referring to? What's so funny that it calls for his trademark flippancy and sarcasm? Thousands of chickens were burned alive in Washington State late last night and early this morning. Clearly hilarious. Fellow animals able to feel terror and pain every bit as much as you and I were trapped inside enormous sheds, while smoke joined the usual burning ammonia in their lungs, while they panicked, while they screamed out and flapped their wings as much as their cramped quarters and burdened bodies would allow, while they burned alive, trapped and with no hope of escape. And a propaganda artist who likes to set himself and his clients up as the level-headed ones, as the ones who represent the majority of Americans and consumers, thinks it's funny. He's just disappointed that they burned to a crisp inside a shed rather than on his grill. The panic, the horror, the terror, the pain--it's all irrelevant. Screw you, Martosko. Screw you.

Thank you Stephanie for exposing this man's callousness.

I might further add that this is a horrible story for sure... of course for the chickens - I can't imagine a more awful death. But then, it happens very frequently in the animal killing business... these infernos that torture imprisoned animals to their last breath. Google "hog farm fire" and you'll see what I mean. But seeing that they loose over a million pigs a year in transport alone - it's no big deal for them. However, they always think it's a "tragic" loss in the financial sense and it's always the money they grieve most. And of course, it's no coincidence that these "accidents" happen when grain prices go up... or when the industry might be facing a downward trend. Better to let the insurance companies pay for the loss. A nice crisp fire in a hog barn or chicken house... who really can trace the origin?

I've blogged before about animal agriculture and fires... It is a common occurrence - imagine a culture that accepts the routine burning alive of imprisoned animals - and then jokes about it? If you are eating meat... and supporting this industry you hold just as much responsibility for such acts as if you had lit the match yourself.

Anyone with half a conscious can see that this is barbaric treatment of sentient beings... This totally unnecessary, vile, evil is in your power to condemn. Do so. Go vegan.

ANIMAL AGRICULTURE "DEBATES" HSUS

Well... I called it - first the cattle folks did an interview with PETA... Followed up in a strategic effort with another animal "welfarist" agency - HSUS.
Both organizations committed to allow animal exploitation - only in a *nicer* way... Their mantra being - to make animals as comfortable as possible before we haul them to the slaughterhouses to be stunned, knocked out, eviscerated, and "processed". They're in favor of kind "humane" murder. These interviews are meant to put consumers at ease with their conscience. Making folks feel warm and fuzzy, that their actions are in line with their values. Seems that 95% of people consider animal cruelty "wrong". Except when it comes to justifying their meat consumption - then all standards fly quickly out the window marked "hypocrisy" - landing flat on the pavement of cognitive dissonance. Animal agriculture still doesn't get it... If they desire "moral high ground"... (fat chance) - they must enter into dialogue with Animal Rights (Vegan) Abolitionists as I suggested here, here, here, here and here... Oh! and here too!
At issue should be not "how" to use animals - As long as they are "commodities" the industry will find endless ways to convince the public that "how" they are using animals is "humane". Instead the focus needs to shift to the "right" to use them at all. This is the starting point that needs to be addressed. Animal Rights vs animal exploitation - that's the debate that needs to be heard.

100 PREGNANT DAIRY COWS BURNED ALIVE

Prairie Post - Dairy farm destroyed; 100 milking cows killed A sad event... a dairy farm in Canada went up in flames killing 100 or so cows - most of them pregnant. I've heard many stories about pigs being burned alive, and chickens too. What a horrible fate. Guess we can expect these kinds of "accidents" when we imprison so many living beings... Please consider the compassionate alternative - do not burn living animals - do not "grill" flesh... Go Vegan!

An Open Challenge to Advocates for Animal Agriculture and Meat Industry

As I posted before - It seems that the animal agriculture and meat industry feel like their views aren't being presented. I find that hard to believe as untold dollars are spent on their behalf through "pork check-off" and "beef check-off" campaigns as well as numerous class activities meant to inform children about animal farming and about the benefit of their dairy & meat products. And lets not forget the constant onslaught of advertising on tv, radio, billboards, etc. I have a difficult time navigating 2 blocks anywhere without a dairy truck or fast-food-meat-menu restaurant... I have attempted on several occasions to contribute comments to Troy Hadrick's blog. The most recent in response to a post he left here at another animal agriculture site whose topic is the PETA Hormel investigation. So all of us... are invited to "share our concerns" with the informed members of the industry. Mr. Hadrick said: "If these allegations are true, this is in no way acceptable behavior. Any person who believes in and practices animal husbandry would not do this to their animals. These rare instances of farm animal abuse do no represent the overwhelming majority of livestock producers who realize how vitally important it is to handle their animals in the proper way. There are a couple of things we should take home from this video. First, it is fortunate that we have the regulations in place to handle abusive situations in this country. If animal agriculture is forced out of this country, most other places don't have the laws in place to prevent and punish this type of behavior. We lose control of how animals are treated if they leave this country. Second, the AP article interviewed the undercover investigator and he said how he had to use all his willpower to not do anything about the alleged abuse. My question to him would be this, was shooting the video more important than stopping the abuse? Was his organization more important than protecting the animal? I believe anyone of us would have stepped in to stop these actions rather than being worried about getting good footage." This is my response: Hello Mr. Hadrick - These actions and abuses ceased to be "allegations" once the footage was made. You saw... the lame and cripple pigs, the ones who couldn't stand... the ones dragging their hind quarters paralyzed from a life of brutalities... The brutalities in the chain of animal "husbandry", "animal agriculture", factory farming, feedlots, hog barns, poultry houses, livestock trucking, stockyards, "packing houses" then finally the knocking box... This is the chain "domestic use" "food" animals are in. (Not unlike the Hallmark fork-lifted, water-boarded cows)... Little concern is given to these beasts... They are commodities and there's bottom line and all that... As long as the whole (hog, poultry, dairy/cow) barn makes a profit, there's little grief over the "expected" and acceptable rate of mortality of a few dozens/hundreds "individuals". These animals are bred, grown, finished, slaughtered and packaged as lickity-split as can be. You say (as a representative of the industry) that if the animal ag industry were to be forced out of the country - we will have "no control" in the way of their (better) treatment"... In other words, it's these "generous" laws and regulations that exist here in the good old "Humane Slaughter-Act of the U.S.D.A." that insures these (food) animals will "continue" to be treated "kindly"... before (and during) their slaughter... I'm sure these "food" animals are very thankful for your concerns... moments before and during their slaughter... Stopping this video for the pig's (cow's or chicken's) "protection" is misinforming... Her "protection" has been denied to her thousands of years ago when she was first claimed as "property". Man's "use" and man's "need" trump all her interests, all-the-time, ever since. This video simply documents a nano-moment in the animal "husbandry" business. Hers was the sad fate of billions before her... and untold billions to come... And finally, I commend you for having such high views of your institution and your colleagues... But if any of you were really *serious* about stopping abuse you would never, ever be in the line of business you're in and you certainly wouldn't be chowing down on pieces of flesh that used to be their bodies. The entire animal/"food"/meat industry thrives on smoke and mirrors. It perpetuates myths with government grants, subsidies, tax incentives and of course... the government is the meat industry's largest customer as well... so that's enough about who's guarding the hen-house. I have been on your blog site several times Mr. Hadrick... I've left civilized, mannerly comments and replies to your postings - yet you have always declined permission for my response. This (censorship) seems typical of the animal agriculture industry thus far. I will continue this conversation further on my blog - along with an open challenge to any/all representatives of the "animal husbandry" field. All are welcome to contribute views on my site. Stay tuned for more invitations to the animal agriculture and meat industry... I really would love to have an open debate to insure that every one's views are heard.

ANIMAL MEAT INDUSTRY DOESN'T GET THEIR VIEWS HEARD (?)

According to the cattlenetwork the viewpoint of their industry isn't being presented: "Nanci Alexander, President and Founder, Animal Rights Foundation of Florida allegedly the money woman behind PCRM, she heads up a group that claims credit for the passage of a Florida constitutional amendment that banned gestation crates. It was the precursor of California’s Prop 2. The group also helped end annual dove hunts sponsored by the Boy Scouts of Florida. ARFF TV, a mobile video theater, travels throughout the Florida firing salvos at the entertainment industry, ‘factory’ farms, and the fur industry. No attempt is made to balance their viewpoints which are shared as the absolute truth with adults and impressionable children". "No attempt is made to balance their viewpoints"... Who is targeting "impressionable children" with coloring books aimed at educating kids about furs and alligator hides? "Contractor shall develop educational materials, brochures and booklets, including a furbearer coloring book, an alligator industry coloring book, and educational materials based on Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) for grades 5-8." and this "educational" literature and the lesson plans encourage kids to accept hunting/trapping/farming beaver, bobcat, coyote, grey fox, red fox, mink, muskrat, nutria, opossum, otter and raccoon is appropriate. IT'S NOT! http://alligatorfur.com/edu/edu.htm What about the dairy industry's attempt to stifle awareness about the truth behind their product? The EPA's "kid site" totally ignores the fact that 18% of methane gasses are due to animal agriculture: http://epa.gov/climatechange/kids/index.html What about the USDA Animal Improvement Programs Laboratory "kid's corner" that has "fun facts and games" about cows and the "importance" of cheese? Without telling kids that the baby cows either get tied up in little stalls or are immediately sent to slaughter? Is that presenting all the facts? and all the viewpoints?
Between all their "4-H" kiddy agriculture events and the propaganda that is promoted ad nausea on the internet how can the meat/animal agriculture industry possibly say that their "views" are not heard - especially by the children they are trying to brain wash with their animal abuse and killing agenda?
So - animal agriculture/meat industry - quit your bawling and your lies - You are using public funds and tax payer dollars to the tune of billions to promote your business of killing animals - This vegan doesn't buy the hooey!
