Meat, Dairy, Eggs, Dead Animals & Blood Foods - Go Vegan

I know that words must convey specific meanings for us to communicate with each other. I have a problem with the word "meat" though... Until about 1300 the term 'meat' referred to any solid food. And the nuts that I eat are also said to be "meat". And so it is too, that my fruits are "flesh" as well - As in "flesh" of a ripe peach, mango, papya, tomato and so forth... And while I may shop for foods that are "meat" and "flesh" - I'm vegan... So I never buy the things that required animal killing: I've come to know them as "blood foods" - dairy, eggs and dead animal parts: Please choose compassion when you shop and eat...

Horse Abused & Killed at Cheyenne Rodeo -

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A horse died after falling during a saddle bronc riding event at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo.
Correction please... this 4 year old mare, Strawberry Fudge did not "die"... She was injured to death! Killed for "entertainment". As a "hobby" or "sport" for "wild west" wannbees.
And rodeos are supposed to represent "traditional American values".... People who support rodeos claim to be good Christian, patriotic folk - And they also claim that they do not tolerate animal abuse... Well, maybe the ancient blood drenched amphitheatre patrons were told that too...
You decide. Ask yourself... Really - what's the difference between these activities and dog fighting? Or rooster fighting? There's none that I can see, except that with rodeos... the animals stand even less of a chance against the biggest bully of them all: The "American" crap-kicking Cowboy.

More Than Provoked - My Introspective Vegan Story & Podcast

I have decided to created another blog with a podcast: Once Upon A Vegan. I'm doing so because I dug myself into a corner when I created Provoked. I started early on using this blog as an almost exclusively satirical forum, where I would launch into diatribes regularly... or as I observed the darkest elements of the animal abusing world. I started feeling that I was restricted to only this; and I just couldn't post more personal things, like whatever was on my mind... Such as changing parts of my world and how I'm negotiating my way through them... I have discoveries, insights, and questions; And things I just need to talk about in a more intimate way than what I feel I've allowed myself here. I'll still post under Provoked those things that fit here... No, I am not giving up my outlet for my sarcastic nature! :) I intend to say the same things at Once Upon A Vegan, but include many thoughts I'd leave unspoken here. I hope my readers will journey with me as I navigate my way, and awkwardly attempt reclaim my innocence... and to tell My Vegan Story.

800,000 CHICKEN INFERNO - BIRDS BURNED LIVE FACTORY FARM HELL

Here we go again. July 10th - Amarillo, Texas: "An area egg company is still counting its losses after a fire destroyed several of its buildings in Farwell. Cal-Maine foods estimates four hen layer houses were destroyed and a fifth has severe smoke damage. 800,000 birds died in the fire that started Thursday evening after five". And as horrible as being burned alive is... folks will still insist that the animal foods they eat are raised and killed "humanely". Because we are all civilized and good people, who would never allow innocent animals to be brutalized, burned or butchered... Without kindness - Without compassion. Right.... HEALTH CARE or LIVESTOCK INSURANCE - WE CAN'T AFFORD BOTH

Oh the irony... as we are struggling to provide health care benefits for a nation of ailing, uninsured people... Parents with sick kids, single persons who can't afford a doctor, and elderly who must choose between medications and food. A crisis for sure. Yet, looky here at another kind of insurance. Since 1999 the Livestock Indemnity Program has been paying animal growers for losses incurred by natural disasters, blizzards, hurricanes, floods, disease, wildfire, extreme cold and heat... and every other threat you can imagine would affect any of these animals:

  • cattle
  • dairy cows
  • buffalo
  • catfish
  • crawfish
  • chickens
  • deer
  • ducks
  • geese
  • goats
  • llamas
  • alpacas
  • reindeer
  • sheep
  • pigs
  • turkeys

and rabbits...

Here's (sort of) what they are worth a piece. And what "proof" is required to make claims for livedeadstock? Well, there are papers to fill out (of course), and even third parties may apply... No shady deals here. R-i-g-h-t....

What reimbursements might be doled? Each "producer" may receive up to $80,000 in benefits. Unless your income exceeded $2.5 million in 3 years... Then (some) restrictions apply.

As far as I can tell... if you've got animal slaves and are in the carcass/murder industry... With a federal sugar-daddy... you probably aren't hurting for health insurance - one bit.

HUMANS EATING HUMANS - Survival Without Choice

Was it something I said? Here's what happened. Last night, I was watching this wonderful movie - Defiance. Without giving away this true story... it's based upon the lives of hundreds of Jewish, Nazi refugees who escaped into a forest and lived there for over 2 years. While they lived in these woods, there were desperate situations without food... Through the desolation of subzero winters; they were all starving... Any attempt to procure food from a distant village, would risk death to those who tried, and possibly expose those who remained hidden. Meanwhile members of the group were dying - from the elements and from starvation... At this point in the film, we all took a stretch break... and I stated what I thought was the obvious: People dying... People starving - You fill in the blanks... No, I was not talking about the horrific act of man killing; these lives were already gone. They already paid the ultimate price for birth... and left behind a dead, unfeeling corpse - which could save lives. And I didn't mean to be upsetting either... only that this seemed like an obvious solution in this situation of survival... Yet my suggestion was met with absolute repugnance! And I agree totally (to the extent that I consider any flesh unappetizing)... But we were discussing humans eating humans for the lack of anything else. We weren't examining the sadistic depravity (or violence) that's needed to satisfy the appetite of a Dahmer. No, this scenario I presented, had no innocent victims... Just a group who's only option at life was to consume the dead... the human dead... I brought up the soccer team whose plane crashed in the Andes. Their story, told in "Stranded", accounts for their experiences of survival. The most desperate was their need for food. And under this circumstance, they had to redefine what (and who) becomes "food"... But again, they had no choice. In order to survive they had to eat. And most people, if they are honest would say they'd do the same. There really is no ethical problem here... Need and survival trump everything... And even if the "harm" were in the "desecration of the sanctity" of (human) life"... still, it was done for the sake of saving human life... and would be justified by most as "necessity". Yet, this group of people, who winced at human flesh eating, even through non-violent necessity, are the same ones who have no compunction to cause horrific pain and suffering, and the greatest of harm to innocent beings... through the foods they choose to consume. Not for survival or for lack of any other option... but for whim and trivial fancy. For taste. There is absolutely no "survival" issue for this group of people... They represent and share in the abundance of civilization... and the easy array of choice. Still, they accept (and encourage) in each other, the social license to kill the innocent - for pleasure-- And I am the barbarian for suggesting eating a human corpse... for survival? Twisted.

DEATH FOR NO REASON IS MURDER - GO VEGAN

This is for those of you who think you have the God-like right to take away a life: Heifer whines could be human cries Closer comes the screaming knife This beautiful creature must die This beautiful creature must die A death for no reason And death for no reason is murder And the flesh you so fancifully fry Is not succulent, tasty or kind Its death for no reason And death for no reason is murder And the calf that you carve with a smile Is murder And the turkey you festively slice Is murder Do you know how animals die ? Kitchen aromas aren't very homely Its not comforting, cheery or kind Its sizzling blood and the unholy stench Of murder Its not natural, normal or kind The flesh you so fancifully fry The meat in your mouth As you savour the flavour Of murder No, no, no, its murder No, no, no, its murder Oh ... and who hears when animals cry ?

Beef - Wasteful, Environmentally Irresponsible, Cruel & Deadly

BEEF: It's what's wasteful: A huge recall of over 210 tons of recalled cow parts is said to be contaminated with deadly e-coli bacteria. 24 illnesses are being investigated by federal officials that may be due to the tainted JBS Swift Beef. Of course the obvious "waste" is in the need to have killed these cows to begin with - because consuming animal flesh is totally unnecessary. But I'd like to point out the secondary wastes involved in this recall. Each pound represents at least 6 times more in grain than what was fed to these cows... There is also the water required... to turn cows into marketable commodities: Over 1,500 gallons of water/pound. Then there was the fuel to transport the grain... then to transport the cows... The electricity to "process" their bodies; then to ship the killed/cut up cow parts, in refrigerated trucks to refrigerated meatcases... All to be shipped somewhere else - to be dumped in a landfill, along with the plastic and cellophane that this garbage was wrapped in... All an enormous waste. Not to go unmentioned, is the huge amount of cow flatulence and poop that contribute to harmful methane gasses. BEEF: IT'S WHAT ENVIRONMENTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE: Meanwhile, JBS is being investigated by the Brazilian government for “bribing of public officials, racketeering, corruption, fraud and collusion,” Greenpece called out the company for knowingly buying cows raised on illegally cleared rain-forest land. In a report titled "Slaughtering the Amazon" the group accused the Brazilian government of being complicit in the illegal destruction of the rain forest due to its hefty funding of the beef industry. Cattle ranching is responsible for about 80 percent of Amazon deforestation.

BEEF: IT'S WHAT'S CRUEL:

Due to extreme heat/drought conditions in Nebraska, thus far over 2200 cows have been found dead. These numbers are likely to climb. Of course, if the livestock/meat industry is growing/killing 6.4 million of these beasts... what's the big deal in a few thousand dying of thirst and dehydration?

If anyone were to leave a dog in a car during the summer, or unprotected in 100 degree temperatures... there would be cause for officials to cite them for "cruelty". Yet, on a feedlot, these "food animals" bear insufferable torment and agonizing deaths, with absolutely no vindication. In fact, since the feedlot owners aren't insured for such losses, the deadstock industry will get federal compensation for these cruelly killed cows, via cruelly sucking off financially taxed Americans, (again).

BEEF: IT'S WHAT'S UNHEALTHY: One of the biggest and most famous "beef" eaters was Dr. Atkins who weighed more than 250 pounds at the time of his death.... The Framingham Heart Study and the recent findings of Dr. T Colin Campbell's China Study, shows that diets high in meat and saturated fat increase risks for heart disease, colon & breast cancer, prostate cancer, rheumatoid arthritis risk, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, obesity, and a shortened lifespan.

Now... remember that little ecoli problem? Sure, you can bbq the poop bacteria out of the beef; but watch out for thoses high levels of cancer-causing heterocyclic amines (HCAs), that are found in grilled animal products! The top five worst foods to grill, according to The Cancer Project and The Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine are: chickens, steaks, pork, salmon and burgers.

So... don't be cruel, wasteful or ecologically irresponsible - and don't be unhealthy -

Go Vegan!
