Save The Animals Now - So They Can Be Killed Later

Now if this doesn't beat all! Fires have ravaged grazing land so now ranchers are taking up collections to help Feed the Animals.
"SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's early and damaging wildfire season is prompting the state agriculture department to activate an emergency fund to buy feed for livestock with range land charred by multiple blazes. Utah Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Leonard Blackham said about 20,000 head of sheep and cattle have lost seasonal rangeland due to fires burning in the state."

There's also this photo with the caption "Pet owners try to coral larger farm animals as fire engulfs the neighborhoods." I'm betting anything that these are the same "fiber and meat" lamas, alpacas, sheep, goats and so on that are bred, shown, shorn, shipped and stripped of their lives when the timing is right for these pet "owners".  Clearly they are "livestock". And that always means eventually they'll be deadstock. So it's really strange isn't it... To ask for money to "save" them only to have them killed at a more convenient time.

There are dozens of sanctuaries that are in desperate need of funds - Not only during disasters, but throughout the year as well... The great thing about donating to them is that you know the cows, pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits, geese and ducks won't ever be killed because they've outlived their "usefulness".

And finally, if there's ever any question as to how ranchers view animals as commodities... And how very little regard they have for the lives or the suffering of these beings - Meat, dairy and egg industries burn them alive - as part of the "acceptable risks" of their business. It's no secret - For them, the bottom line is always profit.  They steal lives without shedding a tear - And now they want your sympathy-money too... Tsk, tsk, tsk... For shame!

Farms That Harm - Farms That Feed * Blood VS Food

I always wished that there was something I could call those in animal "agriculture" that more closely defined their trade... After all, I do LOVE the fine people that grow the food which nourishes me, and they are very different than the ones that breed animals for blood, bone and flesh.

So I'm very grateful that John Sakars made the clever distinction between the two...

And what about these people who work the "nice" harms?  They will say that the animals are very happy and well cared for... The man who raises cattle enjoys seeing the "cycle" of life --- But that "life" is abruptly ended at a mere fraction of it's potential.  How is that "life"?  The woman is always "awed" to see that new mother cows know exactly what to do... And of course her family "eats like kings".  What an odd, warped world these "nice harmers" must exist in.

Now after undercover investigations like the most recent one from Mercy for Animals, these harmers come out in full rank to defend that their businesses... They will say that most places take great "care" of the animals they "love".  We've all seen and read this countless times.  They will also say that they encourage transparency and encourage questions... This may be so initially, but in my experience once the conversations get too "uncomfortable" they will discontinue them.

Case in point - A little more than a year ago Mercy for Animals conducted yet another investigation on a dairy farm.  I engaged in a conversation at the "Dairy Goddess" site and after posting a few comments of unwavering disagreement - The discussion was "closed".

And just last week a few advocates participated in a debate on the Farm and Dairy site.  The "last word" was had by eliminating the "reply" button.  Well! Guess that's one way to win an argument!

There are many other instances of this hiding-habit of the harmers to shut down verbal exchange - But thus far, a conversation is allowed an open forum on this Brandi Buzzard site.  In fact I'm encouraged to share this with other advocates so that all views can be considered.  If anyone's interested here ya go:
Still No Excuse: Owner of E6 Ranch Steps Up

Finally anyone who's been reading my posts for a while knows I'm keeping a running tab of the "food animals" raised "humanely" who have perish live in burning infernos:
From Farm to Fridge and Fire Along the Way - Got Mercy For Animals?
Mooving Along to Burned Cows - Cash Cows & Viral Video Cows
Farmers Aren't Practicing Birth Control - Your Husbandry & Proliferation Is Killing Us!
And so I add 4,800 pigs killed in a fire in northeast Iowa.

I know without a doubt these pigs were being tended to by harmers... Not farmers.
So please... Support your farmers - Eat all the fresh fruits and veggies that you know are better for you and kindest to the animals.

Farmers Aren't Practicing Birth Control - Your Husbandry & Proliferation Is Killing Us!

With a cluck-cluck here and a cluck-cluck there I add  285,000 chickens who perished in a fire in Maryland last Tuesday...
With an oink-oink here and an oink-oink there 800 genetically advanced breeding pigs were flown on a 747 to China.
With a moo-moo here and a moo-moo there Idaho gets busted with illegal drug residue found in cow's milk and dairy cows at slaughter. But not to worry... They've got a few passed bills to help suppress this kind of news.
With a neigh-neigh here and a neigh-neigh there Idaho also manages to keep horses off the "pet protections" list... This keeps the options open for when/if they build their "humane" horse slaughter facility, most likely on an Indian reservation. Nice huh?
Finally, with a bah-bah here and a bah-bah the lambs born this last winter will be fattened just in time to make it to the festive Easter celebrations only weeks away!   And I guess it's true as one of these farmers admits... You can't keep them all!

Too bad Old MacDonald never considered birth control as an option...

It really would be such a better place. :(

If you have the inclination to consider any of these animals as "food", please know that they are sentient beings.  They love their lives just like you and I do.  There are many better options for nourishment -
Please, go vegan.

Mooving Along to Burned Cows - Cash Cows & Viral Video Cows

Adding to the toll of animals burned alive I note the 100 dairy cows burned/killed in a Pa. barn fire.  Apparently this wasn't the first fire either... A neighbor was grateful human lives were spared... Because every "thing" else can be replaced.  And gosh she ought to know because her family operates a cow-slave facility too!

And apparently excess heat at the dairy cannot only kill "things" but also reduce profits... Now here's something I know the farmers will pay close attention to.  It seems that cows will become less productive at temperatures exceeding 68 degrees... So it's recommended to cool "high-producing cows at a lower temperature."  I find this extremely disturbing though, in record-breaking summer heat I know in my house and many others, we try to minimize the use of energy... As it's not only wasteful but expensive.  Let's see, humans opt to live in 78 degrees and cows are kept in 68. Perhaps that's because the dairy industry makes so much money???

Whoa there!  Now if that was the case - Why is it that budget strapped Wisconsin, that is now cutting back salaries and employment to teachers is also granting the dairy industries "Tax Credit Extensions"? Hum... They don't seem to have their priorities in order at all!

Okay... Let's take a break from the serious fatalities, global climate threats and political corruption for just a moment.
Take a look at the logo for National Dairy Producers Organization.
You know... Even Hugh Hefner had the decency to opt for less-offensive "bunny ears" as the "playmate" symbol.  But I tell you these teat pulling cow-hands just have no shame!

I know they try hard... They really do!  Mega-giant Dairygold explains all about their Corporate Social Responsibility. With 60 pages of stats, graphs and economic figures- there's 2 whole paragraphs dedicated to the very important issue of animal "welfare".  Gosh sakes! Could they spare the ink???

Perhaps they are depending on world of mouth via YouTube to explain how it's so very important to remove the calves from their mothers immediately... All for the calves "welfare".  For the calves "safety" they are taken from their mothers.  For their "safety" they are fed milk "replacements."  For their "safety" they are tethered so they cannot interact with other calves.  Seems they forget very quickly about their "safety" when it's time to process their tiny bodies into veal.  It's just nasty deceit, isn't it?

Finally, speaking of videos of cows - And humans speaking for the cows... The World Society for the Protection of Animals is launching a campaign "Not in my Cuppa" that intends to keep cows out of factory farms and on the fields.  It would be a much more worthy campaign if the message was to leave the cow's (milk) alone altogether.

I could go on and on about how "Molly" would still be heartbroken having her babies stolen from her.  How even in the field, she'd be "retired" after a fraction of her life.  And how 3 of the 4 calves she'd give birth to wouldn't live much longer than a few months.  I could tell you - But I think Shelley Williams speaks much better on the cow's behalf:

Go Diary Free and you can wash your hands from the whole ugly business of "cow's milk." :)

From Farm to Fridge and Fire Along the Way - Got Mercy For Animals?

Such a tragedy... So much for "humane" milk or dairy:
40 cows died in a fire in Iowa... And 150 in a blaze in NY

Or "humane" "pork", eggs or "chicken."
Barn Fire Kills 1000 Hogs
1400 Pigs Died in the Fire
10,000 Chickens Burned Alive in Factory Farm Fire
Factory Farm Burns Thousands of Live Chickens
Turkeys Die in Fire - Inhumane Animal Agriculture
800,000 Chicken Inferno - Birds Burned Live - Factory Farm Hell
Christmas 2010 - Livestock Roasting on an Open Fire... A Burning Question

Nope... I don't know that there's any death that could be more inline with "the devil" or "hell" than one of being burned live!

And if you support these industries - You might as well be the one lighting the match...

Instead - Why not enlighten your life?  Know the truth and respond appropriately:

12,000 More Burned Babies - Factory Farm Fire

I guess in my own way I'm keeping vigil on the warehoused animals that have been burned alive... In this post I regretfully add 12,000 baby chicks who perished in a Georgia "poultry" operation.  The cost of rebuilding will be  around $100,000.  The cost of the replacement lives is 92 cents each.

And the cost of these lives gets even cheaper in the "bargain" sections of the "Barbeque Specials" and "Meat-N-Egg Combos"... Sounds like a restaurant menu even before the birds are charred...

Now I wonder... Would any kind person allow with their money - To have a baby chick burned alive?

No! Of course not!  I only wish that they'd make the connection that every time they support these industries... That's exactly what is done - And worse!

Please don't burn innocent beings alive.  Please spend your money with wisdom and compassion.
Live Vegan.

Christmas 2010 - Livestock Roasting on an Open Fire... A Burning Question

IS MEAT, DAIRY & EGGS HUMANE?
I sure know the answer to that! In Saskatchewan, Canada 190 dairy cows were burned alive.  Dozens of cows were found by the barn door attempting an escape:
And in Syracuse, NY  70 cows, several pigs, sheep and horses were also killed in an inferno.  And tens of thousands of animals have also been burned alive in the past.

Now here's the irony that I also know is true... Many people will spend more time worrying about burning their toast than they will about this kind of "accident".  Many people will say, "It's a shame... But these things happen."  Some would say that these were "only" "food animals" anyway... Most will turn their heads, close their minds and harden their hearts to such stories.  For if they didn't, they might have to focus on what the final minutes of these animal's lives must have been like.  They might have to deal with the reality that these events occur on their behalf.  That the death of these animals, whether by fire or bolt gun, or blade is all done by their consent and payment.

It's true that many wouldn't care to know about innocent life killed in such a brutal fashion.  Nor would they want to think about the violence in their meal.  They use a word to condone every step on the way that animals are bred, raised and slaughtered for them.  They assure themselves with this word... arrogantly fashioned on the name of our very special species... They call their meat "humane" to ease any discomfort of what might otherwise appear to be harsh or cruel.  They know that to kill without reason is wrong... But they add footnotes and disclaimers as to who might be eliminated from their exclusive criteria and why.

Now if YOU find YOUrself defensive about YOUr food choices... YOU could choose to be generous with your compassion! In the spirit of the holidays, there couldn't be a better time to re-examine the virtues of kindness and empathy...

Here's a start: YOUr family is important to YOU... These animals have families and babies too. YOU value YOUr life... These animals cherish their lives as well.

Food does not have to include flesh, blood or bone to be nourishing and satisfying...

YOUr celebrations will be just as rewarding and valid without the sacrifices... And the "burnt" offerings.

Please- Give a gift to YOUrself on this season of joy- And choose to be truly humane.

Thousands of Chicks Burned Alive in Poultry Warehouse Fire - Who's Responsible?

About 16,500 four-day-old chickens were killed when a Delaware poultry house caught fire.  If this does not bother you please proceed immediately to your spiritual adviser or mental health professional.  News flash: decent, emotionally alive people should care about this!
For your conveinence I have provided a list of possible excuses one might use to "care" but not alter the buying/eating practices that cause such a holocaust of newborn innocent life:
  1. It is necessary to eat eggs and chickens.
  2. The chicks probably didn't feel a thing.
  3. It was an accident.
  4. This is the way "poultry" is grown.
  5. These warehouses should have sprinklers.
  6. This doesn't happen often.
  7. The chickens/eggs I eat are "humanely" raised/killed.
  8. I try not to think of it.
  9. I like the taste of chickens/eggs too much live without them.
Now if one of these "reasons" (or one I haven't listed) is what you use to continue to eat chickens and eggs - Please leave a comment as to what flavor of morale dissonance you've selected.  I shall be more than happy to help guide you in a more enlightened direction.

800,000 CHICKEN INFERNO - BIRDS BURNED LIVE FACTORY FARM HELL

Here we go again. July 10th - Amarillo, Texas: "An area egg company is still counting its losses after a fire destroyed several of its buildings in Farwell. Cal-Maine foods estimates four hen layer houses were destroyed and a fifth has severe smoke damage. 800,000 birds died in the fire that started Thursday evening after five". And as horrible as being burned alive is... folks will still insist that the animal foods they eat are raised and killed "humanely". Because we are all civilized and good people, who would never allow innocent animals to be brutalized, burned or butchered... Without kindness - Without compassion. Right.... Other fires: Thousands of Chickens Burned Alive Factory Farm Infernos 25,000 Turkeys Burned Alive

Turkeys Die in Fire * Inhumane Animal Agriculture - Go Vegan

A fire swept through a large turkey barn in rural Cannon Falls, Minn. And like the other factory farm fire where tens of thousands of chickens were burned alive... 25,000 turkeys met this cruel fate by flame too.
Call me old fashioned... and I might be- but does being burned alive sound "humane"? I know, the industry and people who eat chickens and turkeys will say it was an "unavoidable accident". But it would never have occurred if the birds were not in those warehouses to begin with... If people did not eat birds they would not have to endure the fires... or the transport trucks, or the slaughterhouses.
For those who may not know... As inadequate and hypocritical as the "humane slaughter act" is - birds are excluded from any kind of "protection" under this "law". So, the chickens and turkeys fate might have been to be stuffed in crates with broken wings and bones; Or they may have been scalded while alive... Or many may have had their throats slit while still conscious.
Perhaps suffocating in smoke and fumes may be a merciful death after all? And if it is - what in the world does that say about animal agriculture and "meat" consumption?
Maybe it tells you... what it did me: Go Vegan.

Factory Farm Burns Thousands of Live Chickens (again)

Stephanie Ernst at Animal Rights - Change.org posted this story on her blog: The Center for Consumer Freedom and its unscrupulous mouthpiece are fond of pretending that they do care about at least basic animal welfare but that they're just "normal" about it, as opposed to those of us who are extreme--that is, those of us who really care about eliminating unnecessary suffering rather than just occasionally pretending to care for sake of PR. Well, here's one of those great examples of how much they care:

What's he referring to? What's so funny that it calls for his trademark flippancy and sarcasm? Thousands of chickens were burned alive in Washington State late last night and early this morning. Clearly hilarious. Fellow animals able to feel terror and pain every bit as much as you and I were trapped inside enormous sheds, while smoke joined the usual burning ammonia in their lungs, while they panicked, while they screamed out and flapped their wings as much as their cramped quarters and burdened bodies would allow, while they burned alive, trapped and with no hope of escape. And a propaganda artist who likes to set himself and his clients up as the level-headed ones, as the ones who represent the majority of Americans and consumers, thinks it's funny. He's just disappointed that they burned to a crisp inside a shed rather than on his grill. The panic, the horror, the terror, the pain--it's all irrelevant. Screw you, Martosko. Screw you.

Thank you Stephanie for exposing this man's callousness.

I might further add that this is a horrible story for sure... of course for the chickens - I can't imagine a more awful death. But then, it happens very frequently in the animal killing business... these infernos that torture imprisoned animals to their last breath. Google "hog farm fire" and you'll see what I mean. But seeing that they loose over a million pigs a year in transport alone - it's no big deal for them. However, they always think it's a "tragic" loss in the financial sense and it's always the money they grieve most. And of course, it's no coincidence that these "accidents" happen when grain prices go up... or when the industry might be facing a downward trend. Better to let the insurance companies pay for the loss. A nice crisp fire in a hog barn or chicken house... who really can trace the origin?

I've blogged before about animal agriculture and fires... It is a common occurrence - imagine a culture that accepts the routine burning alive of imprisoned animals - and then jokes about it? If you are eating meat... and supporting this industry you hold just as much responsibility for such acts as if you had lit the match yourself.

Anyone with half a conscious can see that this is barbaric treatment of sentient beings... This totally unnecessary, vile, evil is in your power to condemn. Do so. Go vegan.

10,000 CHICKENS BURNED ALIVE FACTORY FARM FIRE

A variation of the post about the 100 dairy cows being burned alive...

This time it's 10,000 chickens burned alive in a Kentucky inferno - Only a few got out alive... http://www.wthr.com/Global/story.asp?S=9514560

And then there were 1200 hogs burned alive in July...

And 1,000 before that in New Jersey

And 4,000 pigs lost in a fire on Nov. 21st...

Well... we could go on and on about caged animals being burned alive. But perhaps the most disturbing is this from another fire just last month. The blaze took the lives of some "rare and expensive" genetic line of pigs...

Wherein the farmer said "We feel we owe it to the pigs that died to keep going."

How about everyone do cows, chickens and pigs a real favor and stop breeding them and imprisoning them in the first place... Stop burning them alive (and dead) - Stop transporting them, selling them, slaughtering them and eating them (period).

We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form. –William Ralph Inge
